Banksy by James Pfaff.
Famous but not yet fully artistically recognised, we must look beyond the intelligent pictures on walls and the Iconography. The real art is the activism, the disruptive and persuasive actions destabilising the art world. Under philosophy, the social-political and iconoclash is Banksy's domain.
My image Banksy, Monkey Mask Session, (Tag), London, 2003 is the most well-known image and original persona of Banksy, a variant of which can be seen in Banksy, Wall and Piece. Based on that image, my new giclée print Banksy, Icon, Monkey Mask Session, Red Shine Thru/Red ground, 2024 is a natural evolution. Thanks to Andy Warhol (Marilyn) and Banksy (Kate), screenprints as images are the medium of contemporary Icons, and my new Banksy giclée print, deliberately referencing Warhol, reflects that status.
